In connection with Steve Reich’s 90th birthday, Hélène Navasse is developing an artistic project around Vermont Counterpoint (1982).
Written for solo flute and ten pre-recorded flute parts, the work creates a constantly shifting musical architecture from eleven interwoven voices.
All parts are performed by Hélène Navasse, moving across piccolo, flute and alto flute.
A central artistic focus is to preserve the distinct identity, colour and physical character of the different instruments, while allowing them to become part of one unified musical structure.
