About the project
A long-term engagement with the flute works of Kaija Saariaho developed through performance practice and interpretation.
Danish premieres of major flute works including Terrestre and Sombre, developed in close artistic connection to Saariaho’s flute concerto Aile du songe.
The project extends toward Saariaho’s electronic and spatial works, exploring the flute family as a multidimensional and polyphonic sound space.
Ongoing work surrounding piccolo, flute, alto flute and bass flute with and without electronics as distinct sonic identities. The project forms part of Hélène Navasse’s ongoing exploration of contemporary flute repertoire, electronics and flute-family performance.

Letter of support — Kaija Saariaho (Paris, 2016)
Hélène’s interpretations of my music were so sovereign and natural that it was difficult to believe she was playing it for the first time. I am happy to support her project, and hope she will find many occasions to perform my music — above all Aile du songe.
When Hélène performed some of my central chamber music works with soloistic flute parts, such as Terrestre and Sombre, it seemed as if we would have known each other for a long time already.
